Could a President Trump Hold US Hostage?

Just six days to go, Friends,

I had a really scary thought the other day, and it's just slightly beyond the pale. But if you haven't already cast your vote, it's something I hope you'll consider.

Donald Trump is threatening to disrupt our entire system, which has made it through more than two centuries of hell and high water without his sage input.

It's not perfect, but it's nowhere near as broken or "rigged" as he claims it is.

He's proven himself to be pathological in several ways including not having much care for the truth. And despite what he claims, his record and actions show him to be a misogynist and a racist.

Trump has no real policies about anything except lowering taxes, mainly for the super rich.

Oh, he does want to appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn legal abortion, and he's unashamed about using that as a litmus test.

His foreign policy seems to be to suck up to Vladimir Putin, the renowned invader of the Ukraine, child murderer of Aleppo, and assassin of rivals and journalists.

This is who Donald Trump emulates--Putin, and other tyrants like Saddam Hussein.

Great.

Donald Trump knows nothing and cares nothing about our Constitution, the balance of power, or our system of checks and balances. His campaigning barely conceals his desire to be our monarch.

He has proven this clearly with his "only I can fix it" line in many--if not most--of his speeches.

He also has a completely cavalier attitude toward nuclear weapons and a failure to comprehend the fragility of the world's balance of power.

But as President, he will have complete and ultimate control over the largest nuclear arsenal in the world and can launch it at his discretion in four minutes. And we've repeatedly seen how thin-skinned and vindictive he is.

So here's my scary thought: What if he were to use the nuclear arsenal as leverage? What if Trump were to use his singular power to launch a nuclear war as pressure on Congress to give him his way?

And what if he used that leverage to fundamentally change our system and make him not just President, but our de facto Emperor?

He's proven he's crazy enough to do the unexpected. It's what he claims he likes to do. And he'd have the power over our nukes handed right to him.

This one nuke can destroy Manhattan. President Trump can order hundreds
of these dropped, along with the launch of ballistic and submarine-based
missiles that will destroy the world many times over. All it takes is
four minutes.
If you'd put this past Trump, just think of all the unorthodox things we've already seen in this election.

We've always taken for granted that our Presidents would be sane and rational enough to work within our framework and not destroy the world.  They all have been enough-so during the nuclear era. But Trump is not.

He is a classic narcissist and everything is always about him...not country. In his mind, we're all just chess pieces in a world he created and controls.

If he ever sensed that he's going down, which hasn't happened yet, a President Trump would take us all down with him.

His "drain the swamp" remarks demonstrate his nihilistic views.

Barring not giving Trump direct access to the nuclear trigger, this man cannot safely be President.
